Nokia 3720 Classic Becomes Official

Wednesday, July 8, 2009

Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia has officially unveiled today a new rugged handset that has been spotted in the wild during the past few days, namely the Nokia 3720 classic. The device, coming to the market as an IP-54 certified mobile phone, has been developed so as to provide water, dust and shock resistance.

According to the mobile phone maker, the new Nokia 3720 classic has been developed based on the company's previous 'rugged' devices, and comes with a case made of durable materials, while also being sealed so as to protect the interior hardware against different factors. The new handset should land on the market in the summer, while the price tag it will feature has been set at EUR 125 before subsidies or taxes.
“Whether using it at the beach or in a dusty construction site, the Nokia 3720 classic has been specifically engineered to withstand the splashes, bumps and drops that come with the terrain,” said Markku Suomi, vice president, Connect devices. “While the Nokia 3720 classic is tough on the outside, it is equally functional on the inside - a perfect choice for people who want a long-lasting and reliable mobile phone for any environment.”
The new handset, which we already had the chance to admire while performing a series of different stunts, comes with a sealed, leak-proof design, and also sports a range of colors, the company says. The phone's battery cover is meant to protect not only the battery, but the internal circuitry of the device as well, and comes locked with a screw, so that the Nokia 3720 classic can be used without worries in wet, dusty or muddy environments.
Moreover, the battery performance of the phone is impressive – 2.5 weeks of standby time, we previously learned – and users will also be able to enjoy a LED flashlight that has been included in the rugged design of the device. In addition, there is also a 2.2-inch display, support for Nokia Maps, and amicroSD memory card slot.
